A Shop Drop
a post where I actually promote myself
I do actually make art for a living… which means every once in awhile I have to pitch myself, my work, and this time? My kids work.
Seven years ago Marko and I took our artwork to our very first market. It was wildly successful, we almost sold out - down to the furniture we brought to hold the artwork. From there we went on to create more and more items for markets, until Covid shut down markets and pushed artists like us online where our patronage was much more limited. Then we moved and Covid continued to impact us, so we transitioned to other things. I had my first gallery showing, then solo exhibition, and now my CV is looking a bit like it might tumble off the page. But one thing we never returned to after Covid and moving? Was markets.

And this weekend? We were supposed to make a comeback. With our kids bringing their very first art-drops, we were supposed to do YAS Fest. Youth Art Series runs programming for young people aged 8-25 at East Hawai’i Cultural Center, which both of our kids have participated in often. Both Rory and Kai have fond memories of when we did markets every damn weekend when they were 6 & 8, and were excited to be bringing their own artwork to a market.
But the weather had other plans.
A State of Emergency was called earlier this week that shut down all of the happenings in Hilo Town. This has left us with two disappointed kiddos and a house full of merchandise. So we are dropping it into the store until we are able to head to the next market - because there will be a next market. We’ve already looked at our options and will be apply for booth locations at several different markets, the kids too.
Until then - you can find all of our new items on the website! Roranicus Rex Made, Kaiapapaya Made, Stickers, Temporary Tattoos, new handpainted cards, and more.

Plus, some oldies but goodies have made a comeback. There are 8x10” prints, Signed Poetry Books, plus a handful of originals.
As we burrow down while the worst of this storm (for us) comes our way, enjoy shopping through all the things that were meant to make their debut at YAS Fest this weekend.
xo,
